On Stage KT7800 Padded Keyboard Bench Review

On Stage KT7800 Padded Keyboard BenchOn Stage sell two benches that are easy to confuse because they have similar model numbers:

KT7880
Adjustable height:18.75", 20", 20.50"
Weight capacity: 300 lbs.
Seat: 12" x 17"; 2" cushion
Weight:11.5 lbs.

KT7880+ On Stage KT7800 Plus Keyboard Bench
Adjustable height: 19", 21", 23", 25"
Weight capacity: 360 lbs.
Seat: 12.5" x 23.5"; 3" cushion
Weight:14 lbs.

This one (KT7880) is a no-frills basic bench. Each leg has 3 holes for the pivot bolt. Height is adjusted by removing the pivot bolt and reinstalling it with two washers through a different pair of holes. This is not difficult, but if the intent is to adjust it several times a day for different members of the family, I'd choose a different style. The advantage of this design is once you set the height, it remains until you intentionally change it.

One side of the scissor base is permanently attached to the seat with brackets that allow it to pivot; the other side fits into 2 c-shaped brackets. To keep the legs from collapsing when you lift the bench off the floor, you hand tighten a bolt across the opening of each c bracket whenever you set it up; the bolts have plastic knobs. This works fine for most applications. But if I were assembling half a dozen of them several times a day, I'd prefer a single lever latch.

The larger KT7880+ has a different design for adjusting height, best understood by going to the onstagestands web site and entering "KT7800+" in the search box.

For home use, I'm happy with the KT7880. It's sturdy and comfortable, utilitarian in appearance with decent workmanship (China), folds for storage or travel, sets up and adjusts easily without tools. A good value.

Casio LK-270 61 Key Personal Lighted Keyboard with MP3 Connection, USB Port, SD Card Slot, and 570 Tones Review

Casio LK-270 61 Key Personal Lighted Keyboard with MP3 Connection, USB Port, SD Card Slot, and 570 TonesI have had my LK270 for about a month and am extremely pleased with it.This is a great family instrument with very good sound.Easy to add midi files with the SD card and do they sound great. The lighted keyboard picks up on these files and plays along. Only downside is that to get the wait for key lights for an entire tune takes a few changes and button pushes every time the the keyboard is turned on. Not real intuitive buttons at times and requires using the manual every time for awhile. Casio telephone support experience was very positive and a lot of help. This is not a toy but a musical instrument with a very reasonable price and the lighted keyboard only way to go as I see it for family use keyboard.Be sure to order SD5 power supply imediately !

Step Up Lesson takes you through practice of the right hand part, left hand part, and both hand parts for each phrase of a song. Master all of the phrases and you master the song.

On-Stage Stands KB8802R Rosewood Keyboard Bench Review

On-Stage Stands KB8802R Rosewood Keyboard BenchIt's been a month and I don't find any issue with it. I am about 190 lbs heavy.

The only potential issue is some edge is sharp, not round so it might be an issue for a baby practicing stand ups, however i don't think this is a problem in normal situation.

The bench would have been perfect if it had a room to store stuff underneath - I couldn't tell this when reading the product description.

Kurzweil SP2XS 88-Key Stage Piano With Speakers and Stand Review

Kurzweil SP2XS 88-Key Stage Piano With Speakers and StandNow that all Kurzweil's can be layered and split, their glaring weakness is all the more conspicuous. The company, in my opinion, makes the best digital pianos--in terms of sound, versatility, and keyboard "feel"--but with the most convoluted, incoherent, least helpful instructions.Guaranteed to lead to many all-nighters for musicians just trying to "set up" the keyboard for the next day's gig, which may not have a bass player or drummer.

If you have q friend, or a knowledgeable techie/gear-head who works cheap, by all means hire him.The manual, as usual, looks like it's been written by a committee. After talking about the most "powerful" dimension of the keyboard as its adaptiveness to set-ups, it fails to explain or illustrate how to construct sounds in the favored "set-up," or "500," mode rather than the more limiting "performance" mode.It gives no directions or helpful illustrations on how the user might be able to use one of the factory set-ups (all of them unusable) as a "template" to help the user with the creation of his own more practical set-ups.It doesn't explain how to transpose a good acoustic bass sound up an octave into a playable range without having all of the notes in the treble, or right hand, also transposed, except into an unplayable range. It provides a paragraph on doing a "hard reset," so that the player can get rid of all the monstrosities he's created and start afresh--unfortunately the manual fails to provide the vital information that before the "reset" button will activate the instructions permitting a hard reset, the user must first depress the "Global" button.(By accident, and several hours later, I finally stumbled upon it.)

Whether the reader finds it merely curious or confounding, the manual will introduce and begin to discuss some of the specifics of splitting, layering, set-up programs, etc. Then in a late section of the book, the reader finds a paragraph stating that the instrument is capable of "layering and splitting, which means adding on another sound or dividing the keyboard into two or more zones so that different sounds can be played, a feature that can often be convenient for a musician, especially one who is playing in a show" (!!!).In other words, the paragraph sounds as though the authors are unaware that anything preceded it.Instead of specific instructions, we're given a reductive introduction that sounds like it belongs in the ad sheet!I's in details like this where Kurzweil seems determined to cut the corners, in the process cutting the frustrated user to shreds.

I could say that this latest Kurzweil gives me more problems when, during the middle of a fast-moving passage in the middle of a tune, I attempt to go from one program to another.Often the button doesn't register my quick press, the light blinks back at me when it should have changed--but for all I know I've programmed it wrong. The same goes for the sustain pedal. It's the slipperiest pedal I have yet to encounter on an electric keyboard. At one time, Roland marketed a pedal with a heel flap, which made eminent sense and was quite effective (enough reason to get rid of it in this inscrutable market). The bottom surface of this Kurzweil pedal is less abrasive than Kurzweil pedals I've had with my K1000, PC2, or PC1se, squirting across a linoleum floor like a hocky puck repeatedly over the course of a 4-hour job (might as well have been 40).Maybe that's the way they like them in Minnesota.

Yamaha WB2 Padded Wooden Bench for the Yamaha DGX505 and DGX620, Natural Finish Review

Yamaha WB2 Padded Wooden Bench for the Yamaha DGX505 and DGX620, Natural FinishI am disappointed in the bench as the wood color does not match the stand color for the Yamaha keyboard. There is quite a bit of red in bench wood color and no red in the stand color.

Product Description:
Stay comfortable and relaxed while playing your digital keyboard with this Yamaha WB2 bench. Specifically designed to match the DGX505 keyboard but appropriate for a variety of digital and acoustic pianos, the bench is furnished with a thick padded seat and a strategic air vent in the cushion. Combined, the padding and vent support your bottom over long periods while protecting the seat filling from wear and tear. The bench is tough and attractive, too, thanks to its light-grain wood finish and sturdy wooden legs. In fact, its elegant design looks great in everything from Victorian to modern living rooms. It's a particularly good choice for users who value both comfort and portability, as it measures only 22.5 by 19 by 13.75 inches (W x H x D).
The bench comes disassembled but comes together quickly and easily thanks to the included four bolts and assembly tool.

Schoenhut Children's 25 Key Upright Piano Pals Review

Schoenhut Children's 25 Key Upright Piano PalsI purchased this piano for my toddler's 3rd birthday. She took to it immediately, and enjoys playing it.

The piano feels very sturdy and well constructed, and the bench is at the perfect height for a toddler. Since the piano ships in pieces, a few minutes will be required to assemble the bench and attach the legs to the piano body. An allen wrench is included in the box, making assembly easy. Note that the dog pictured on the side of the piano is a decal, so you will not see the holes for the screws on the piano body immediately. Just run your finger over the surface until you locate the holes, and use a small sharp object like a scissors to poke a hole through the decal before inserting the screws.

This instrument sounds like a classical toy piano. If you've never heard a toy piano, think more of a chime sound than a piano sound. The description says the keys are full size (in width). When you look at the keyboard, it is hard to believe they are, but I measured them, and indeed they are. I think it is the miniature size of the piano that gives them the illusion of being smaller. The piano has a 2 full octaves, which is one of the main reasons I purchased this model. The notes are also very well tuned.

The piano ships with a small songbook and a cardboard insert for the keyboard so older kids can play by color. I find this insert odd, because it is longer than the actual keyboard. One would have to fold it to make it fit. Perhaps one could use it when the child transitions to a full length piano keyboard.

All in all, a great product. If you have a toddler interested in making music, or who enjoys banging on a piano whenever they see one, I'd highly recommend this.
